Fans will be able to read manga on the Nintendo Switch.
First teased by Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic editor Tatsuki Waki on X (formerly Twitter) on 5 February, 2025, a manga reader service is geared to launch for the Nintendo Switch on 13 March, 2025. Waki claimed that this service will be the first of its kind for the handheld console.
Although no further details were revealed about the service and its publishers, the X post included a photo showing what the service would look like on the Switch, complete with a feature of CoroCoro Comic’s serialised manga Unmei No Makimodo Shi - All Great Achievements Require Time by Futa Kimura displayed in portrait mode.
Furthermore, users will be able to turn pages with the joystick, zoom in and out, change screen orientation, and more. It is yet to be known whether the upcoming service will use e-books, or whether it will be a service unique to Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic Magazine. There's also no indication that the application will receive a global release as of this time.
Nintendo’s 3DS had a similar e-book reader launched in Japan by the company Librica. Called ‘Bookstore Anywhere’, the service featured a variety of e-books, including over 100 manga series to choose from. The app launched in 2012 and was free to download.
