The Initial D sequel manga MF Ghost will reach its finale soon, but the anime will return with a 3rd season.
Mangaka Shigeno Shunichi, the miracle worker behind the street racing manga Initial D and its sequel MF Ghost announced that his latest work is coming to an end. On January 7, the mangaka revealed on Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine’s 7th issue of 2025, that MF Ghost will only have 6 more chapters. The manga has already entered the conclusive stretch of its ‘Final Battle’ arc with the most recent chapter.
Chapter 275 will likely be the final entry of the manga, seeing as there are 269 chapters currently out. MF Ghost is the sequel to Initial D, widely regarded as one of the best racing manga and anime of all time. The protagonist of Initial D, Takumi Fujiwara, is the mentor of MF Ghost’s protagonist Kanata Rivington, whose goal is to find his long-lost father while racing on the streets of Tokyo. MF Ghost first started serializing back in 2017, and will likely end sometime in February 2025, if there are no delays.
However, fans don’t need to be heartbroken as more amazing things are on their way. The third season of the MF Ghost anime has already been confirmed. According to speculation, the show will return sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. Moreover, 2025 is also the 30th anniversary of the original Initial D manga. Some projects have already been planned to celebrate the occasion. You can read both Initial D and MF Ghost on Kodansha’s K-Manga website.
