The latest issue of the Spy x Family manga began from where the previous one had ended. We learned that Melinda was previously a patient in the hospital where Loid works, although the results were unsatisfactory for her back then. At Loid’s assurance, she opens up about her life and reveals her suspicions about Donovan Desmond being an alien.

At first, Melinda seems to be on guard around Loid because of what Yor said about him striking his patients. However, Loid tells her to speak freely and mentally compliments Yor for deepening her friendship with Melinda and unknowingly assisting him on his mission. Loid asks his patient about her recent problems such as insomnia, headaches, and appetite loss. When she keeps quiet, Loid reminds her that she can speak freely as he is bound by oath to keep their discussion private. He further tries to earn her trust by stating that if he ever breaks this oath, she can report him to the authorities.
Melinda tells Loid that he is a really strong man. Every time she sees either him or Yor, she is struck by how impressive and lively they are. Loid says that despite being a doctor, he is still a human, and that whenever he is overwhelmed by his work and home life, he schedules an appointment with one of his colleagues. He assures Melinda that sometimes not being strong enough is okay as she is a human too. Mentally, he urges her to reveal the little pieces of intel she might have that can help him with Operation Strix.
Melinda tells her attendant Nora to wait outside and compliments the tea that Loid served her. She then asks if he knows that she used to be a patient here before. Loid checks her file and sees that she was indeed admitted to the same hospital during the war. However, all doctors during that time treated her with apprehension due to her being the first lady. Loid says that he’s sad to hear that, and will do anything he can to help her. Melinda says that she’s not here as the former first lady but as a mother and wife. To this Loid asks if her distress is being caused by her family.
Suddenly, Melinda asks if he believes in UFOs. At first, Loid is stunned, but he remembers the rumors about Melinda being obsessed with the Occult. To humor her, he says that since their universe is so vast, the possibility of UFOs visiting them is pretty exciting. He also mentions some magazines about aliens and the fact that the Bavette family was recently abducted. He asks if this is somehow connected to her family. He wonders if Donovan is somehow connected to space exploration. But Melinda says that she thinks that her husband Donovan might be an alien.

Some recent unofficial rumours swirled around the Spy x Family fandom in the latter part of 2024 about the manga entering its ‘Divorce arc’. However, though there is no explicit confirmation that this is indeed occurring, chapter 109 is slowly hinting at a shift in one of the relationships that has been integral to the manga: Melinda and Donovan's marriage.
We've been shown just how strained and uncomfortable Melinda and Donovan's marriage has been so far, and how much it has affected Anya's sy-on boyfriend Damian. The state of it is so bad, in fact, that Melinda sometimes wishes that Damian died during the bus hijacking even though she loves him, simply because he reminds her of her husband. Hopefully, her session with Loid will help her deal with the situation better. On the other hand, she might reveal some important information that can help Loid in his current mission.
Moreover, people are eager to learn more about Melinda’s past and why she was admitted to the psychiatric hospital before. She will also most likely disclose the reason why she thinks Donovan is an alien, but we can infer that it is likely due to his absolute disregard for his family and their well-being for his own selfish needs. Fans also think that the stitches on Donovan's head might hint at his altered personality. It's been shown time and time again that the way he rules over his wife and two sons with terror is a major reason behind Melinda’s distress. Overall, the chapter sheds some light on Melinda’s mental state and how her family is the reason behind her problems.
