Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is set to premiere in 2027.
In an official announcement during the Sony Group Corporation’s CES 2025 press conference, Crunchyroll and Sony revealed that an official Ghost of Tsushima anime is officially in production. The anime series will be based on Sucker Punch Productions’ immensely popular Ghost of Tsushima open-world game, as well as its multiplayer experience Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. The series will air exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.
Takanobu Mizonu, who directed Star Wars: Visions episode ‘The Duel’, is set to direct the series, while Gen Urobuchi, the writer behind Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass, will be in charge of the story composition. The anime’s production will be done in collaboration with KAMIKAZE DOUGA and Aniplex, while Sony Music will serve as music and soundtrack partner. Official cast and additional staff are yet to be revealed.
Ghost of Tsushima is a 2020 action-adventure video game that tells the story of Jin Sakai, a samurai tasked to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan at the time of the Kamakura Shogunate. Its multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, was released in October of 2020, and made available separately in September 2021.
A sequel for Ghost of Tsushima titled Ghost of Yotei is currently in the works, featuring a new protagonist and a story 300 years after Jin Sakai’s adventures, set in Hokkaido.
