Kikoru Shinomiya is compatible with multiple Numbers Weapons, can she help Kafka defeat the Daikaiju?
The latest chapter of Naoya Matsumoto’s manga, Kaiju No. 8, focused mainly on the new developments surrounding Kikoru Shinomiya. With her body being compatible with multiple Numbers Weapons, she is the ultimate support for Kafka in his final battle against No. 9 and the Meireki-era Daikaiju. The young girl is hell-bent on freeing her father from the monster’s grasp.

The chapter begins with a flashback of Shinomiya being tested. It’s revealed that she is compatible with not only Numbers Weapon 4, but also with No. 1, 2, and 7. Both Gen Narumi and Keiji Itami are shocked after seeing her true potential. But Gen asks Itami to not disclose this information to anyone else because he doesn’t want this information to be leaked to No. 9. After waking up, Kikoru asks Narumi to teach her how to use the No. 1 weapon in battle. At present, Kikoru uses the eyes of No. 1, which shocks Soshiro Hoshina as the Third Division didn’t have a clue about this.
Narumi shoots back that he shouldn’t talk because he also trained Kafka in modified combat in secret. Kikoru’s weapon is the embodiment of the countless eyes of Kaiju No. 1 and their only chance to gain an upper hand over No. 9. It’s revealed that there are also many spares of the eyes which have already gotten the data from when Narumi was using it in the battlefield. Hoshina realises that Narumi was fighting with the Daikaiju while also sharing his field of vision with Kikoru. The Division One captain asks his protege to finish what she had started. Standing in front of the Daikaiju, she tells Kafka to destroy its core with everything he has when she finally finds and exposes it.

Kikoru remembers her promise to mourn her father Isao Shinomiya, who’s still inside the Daikaiju, once they’ve defeated it. She and Kafka begin their operation as the Daikaiju releases another attack. While fighting, Kikoru focuses on locating the monster’s core. We then see Captain Mina Ashiro asking Okonogi for a favour, although we don’t see what she requested. The final page again focuses on Kikoru, who is determined to free her father from the grasp of the terrifying monster as she fires another shot at it.

My love for this manga grows with every new chapter because of how badass the women are. Kikoru Shinomiya, who is undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in the whole series, finally has her time to shine and I can’t be happier. Her relationship with both Narumi and Kafka is precious and her resolve to avenge her father is honourable. I’m definitely excited about the team up with Kafka as they’re definitely the two most dangerous people on the battlefield. I’m also eager to see what Mina is cooking up and how she assists the two in the final fight for humanity's survival.
