The manga inspired the Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You anime series.
Shogakukan’s combined Weekly Shonen Sunday Issue 22/23 has revealed that the popular romance series, Fly Me to the Moon is going on indefinite hiatus. A return date is yet to be announced.
Kenjiro Hata, the manga author of the series, released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) last 22 April, and through a machine-translation said that the reason for the hiatus was a “tight schedule”, which caused delays that needed to be improved upon. He also apologised for the decision while thanking the fans of his work. The latest issue released Chapter 313.
Fly Me to the Moon plot and other details
Fly Me to the Moon is a rom-com sci-fi manga written and illustrated by Kenjiro Hata, and began serialisation through Shogakukan;s Weekly Shonen Sunday in 2018. The series has a total of 31 tankobon volumes as of March 2025. The series is licensed for an English release by Viz Media.
The manga series inspired an anime adaptation known as Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You. The first season aired from October to December 2020, while the second season aired from April to June 2023. Seven Arcs produced the series. Combined, Tonikawa has 24 episodes, 1 Original Video Animation, and a 4-episode Original Net Animation. No announcements has been made for a potential third season.
Crunchyroll is streaming the series with an English dub in select territories as a Crunchyroll Original, while Plus Media Networks Asia has licensed the first season for a Southeast Asian release under Aniplus Asia.
