A Chainsaw Man has appeared, but is it the real one?
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s weird and wonderful manga continue to surprise fans with yet another unexpected twist at the end of the chapter. The latest issue focused on the crying girl from the previous update, who seems to be obsessed with ‘saving’ all the other students. But as it turns out, fans were right about her identity, and she is indeed the incarnation of destruction. The real question is, can Chainsaw Man stop her?

Chainsaw Man Chapter 196 recap
The new girl at the school keeps crying and telling the others that she feels bad for them. But when the teacher leaves and the students ignore her, she starts crying louder. A boy asks her if she wants to help them with the school festival preparations and she says it’s fine if she can ‘save’ them with that. But when the boy asks her to take the trash outside, she answers that he’s asking her to waste her superior talents. She says that the boy, who doesn’t have any powers, should do it. Annoyed, the guy leaves with the trash bags. Another student then tells the crying girl that she’s bringing down everyone’s mood when they’re trying to find solace in the preparations. If she wants to help, she can go kill ants outside.
The girl actually follows her advice as we see her outside in the garden squashing ants. The boy who took out the trash approaches her and says that she must’ve had terrible things happen to her if she moved to this crumbling city. He says that since everything around them is falling apart, they can only laugh and be themselves at school, preparing for the upcoming festival. If she really wants to ‘save’ them, she could smile and lend them a hand. The girl stands up and says that the festival might not happen with things the way they are now.
However, she says that she has the power to save them. Suddenly, the girl grabs the boy’s head and says that she will release him from his earthly suffering through death. But before she can do anything, an intimidating silhouette suddenly appears on top of the school building. A whirring chainsaw comes into view, and it seems that Chainsaw Man is here. The devil says that someone is calling for help and he’s coming here from hell with the engine revved and ready. The devil lands in front of them and the girl says that she’ll save him too. The devil says that his name is Chainsaw Man. In the final panel, we see that although he looks like Chainsaw Man, the new devil is much more grotesque and deformed.

The Death Devil and a new Chainsaw Devil lookalike in one chapter? Fujimoto really knows how to spoil his readers. Although it’s not confirmed if the new crybaby is actually the death devil, her proclamation of freeing people through death is enough proof. I have to be honest, she is nothing like I thought she would be. It’s like expecting a Makima and getting a Kobeni for the most fearsome devil in the world. But I’m not worried since Fujimoto usually has a plan for every one of his characters, and the Death Devil won’t be much different. What I’m interested in is this new disfigured Chainsaw Man Devil, which seems to have been born from people’s fear of the Chainsaw Man. With the new characters in the mix, I’m excited to see what happens next in the arc.
