The game will launch in March 2025.
Wind Breaker is getting a video game adaptation in Japan, and fans of the series are getting excited as its release date is fast approaching.
The upcoming game is named Windbreaker: Rebel Heroes, adapting the CloverWorks anime into a mobile gacha fighting game. The game allows players to experience key battles from the series, but based on this most recent trailer, it looks like players will also get to enjoy a variety of new story events on top of that.
The new story content was teased with the release of a new trailer on 7 February:
The new trailer, supervised by manga author Satoru Nii, places another character in the spotlight: Shishitoren. An accompanying announcement also confirmed the addition of an original game story that focuses on Shishitoren, which is also known as the Lion’s Head Group, one of the delinquent gangs in Wind Breaker’s story. This story has never been featured in the anime before.
The trailer opens with Choji Tomiyama on stage, speaking to the members of Shishitoren, complaining that “everyone is weak." The short clip also featured Bofurin’s leader Umemiya Hajime at the beginning, headbutting Choji Tomiyama.
Not much gameplay was revealed in the trailer. Instead, it showcased notable members of Shishitoren like vice-leader Jo Togame, Kota Sako, Yukinari Arima, Minomu Karuma, among others. A preview of some of the game’s locations focusing on Shishitoren’s territory, and surrounding neighbourhoods, was also featured.
Pre-registration is now open for the mobile game, which is set to release in Japan on 12 March, 2025. There’s no word on a global release at this time.
The game is based on the 2021 manga of the same name by Satoru Nii. The first season of the anime adaptation came out on 5 April, 2024 and was directed by Toshifumi Akai (Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia). It was available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix. A second season is scheduled to premiere in April 2025.
