Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun to receive anime adaptation

The historical action manga is set to release an anime adaptation.

The hit historical action manga, Tenkaichi: The Greatest Warrior Under the Rising Sun (Tenkaichi: Nihon Saikyo Bugeisha Ketteisen) has announced a TV anime adaptation is in the works. The news, which was revealed on the manga’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, featured a teaser visual featuring the main characters. Sadly, no further information has been announced.

Tenkaichi plot and other details

Based on the manga by Yosuke Nakamura and illustrated by Kyotaro Azuma, Tenkaichi is set in the Sengoku era, 10 years after Oda Nobunaga unified Japan.

The story tells of a battle tournament headed by Oda Nobunaga himself, who is in search of a successor as he realises that his days are numbered. Various warlords then set up their own strongest warriors in a bid to stake their claim over the nation. 

The series was initially published in Kodansha’s Young Magazine the 3rd from January to April 2021, before transferring to Monthly Young Magazine. As of 2024, the manga has a total of 10 tankobon volumes. The English version of the manga is available on Kodansha’s K Manga app. 

Tenkaichi was nominated for the eighth Next Manga Awards in the print category in 2022.
