Original anime Food For the Soul reveals April release date and main cast

The anime has also unveiled a brand new trailer.

The original TV anime by P.A Works, titled Food for the Soul (Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi), has just revealed some new details. The official website and  X (formerly Twitter) account of the series confirmed the main cast. Moreover, it was announced that the series will premiere on 12 April, 2025. A brand new trailer also gave fans a glimpse into the slice-of-life anime.

Food For the Soul anime cast and staff details

The upcoming culinary slice-of-life anime’s voice cast includes:

  • Mako Kawai voiced by Hana Shimano (Himari Kino in Whisper Me a Love Song)
  • Kurea Furutachi voiced by Ai Kakuma (Chino in Naruto Shippuden and Rossweisse in High School DxD)
  • Shinon Ogawa voiced by Yoshino Aoyama (Rumi Meguro in Viral Hit and Hashibami in How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer)
  • Tsutsuji Higa voiced by Natsune Inui (Jinlin in The Unwanted Undead Adventurer)
  • Nana Hoshi voiced by Saya Aizawa (Norn Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and Ayano Kimishima in Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian)
  • Mokotaro voiced by Azuki Moeno (Gourmand in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger vs. Kiramager vs. Senpaiger)

Atto, the creator of the Non Non Biyori manga series, is also the creator of Food For the Soul. The anime is being produced by Aniplex with P.A. Works animating it. Atto, Shinya Kawatsura, and Toru Shunsui are directing the series together. Yoshihiro Hiki is handling the series composition while Hajime Mitsuda is in charge of character designing for the animation. The music is being composed by Hitomi Mizutani.

Food For the Soul story and other details

As previously mentioned, the Non Non Biyori creator Atto is also the brains behind this project. It’s an original animated series, which means there is no other source material to look back on. It has been announced that a manga adaptation of the anime, illustrated by Quro, will start being published in the Comic Alive+ manga website by Media Factory on 15 March, 2025.

From what we can see in the trailer, the anime will focus on the lives of a cast of college girls who love to eat. As they enter a new phase of their life, they will visit a farm and learn the source behind their delicious food and learn how to appreciate it more.
