Renowned director Makoto Shinkai, most known for hit movies like Your Name and Suzume, has teased a new movie project for 2025.
In a New Year’s greeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Makoto Shinkai has teased an upcoming movie project that he’s working to unveil within 2025.
Shinkai revealed that he and his colleagues had spent the majority of 2024 working on this mysterious new movie, hinting at its possible fantastical nature by describing the process as “building a new world from scratch.” Shinkai further states that fans may expect an announcement regarding this movie project coming within the year, and wishes a peaceful 2025 to everyone.
Considering Makoto Shinkai’s recent foray into fantasy with Suzume, which was released in 2022, Weathering With You, released in 2019, and Your Name, released in 2016, we can expect a magical movie that’s sure to tug at our heartstrings!
Makoto Shinkai has been making a name for himself in the Japanese Animation industry with his breathtakingly beautiful animated movies since starting off in 1996, and broke into worldwide acclaim thanks to Your Name. Your Name was once the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time with a whopping box office record of over $400 million worldwide, before being dethroned by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, and has earned Makoto Shinkai tons of accolades in various local and international film awards.
