2024 was a year packed full of memorable moments for Vtubers.
Vtubing is stronger than ever in 2024, with well-known Vtubers breaking out of their niches and becoming indelible icons in popular culture. Here’s some of the most unforgettable moments, drama, and achievements our favourite Vtubers have gone through in 2024:
Ironmouse surpassed Kai Cenat as the most-subscribed streamer on Twitch
Back in October, VShojo’s Ironmouse took the all-time subscriber record from fellow popular streamer Kai Cenat, logging in a total of 326,252 all-time peak subs as opposed to Kai Cenat’s record of 312,000 subs at the time. This feat was achieved through Ironmouse’s 40-day charity subathon with the goal of raising money for the Immune Deficiency Fund. Kai Cenat later took back the record, but the two have forged a fun friendship that has also helped Vtubers break out into the wider pop culture audience.
Hololive’s collaboration with Major League Baseball
Watching Gawr Gura sing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ in an official Major League Baseball regular season game has become one of the most unforgettable moments for Vtubers in 2024.
Hololive broke into the sports scene with their collaboration with Major League Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers team back in July. The Vtubers who made special performances for ‘hololive night’ were Hoshimachi Suisei, Usada Pekora, and Gawr Gura. The Vtubers also acted as special lucky charms to the Dodgers team, as they did win their game!
HoloJustice, FLOW GLOW debut
Hololive debuted a new English group back in June, called HoloJustice, much to the excitement of fans. The new Vtubers in the group are Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, Gigi Murin, Cecilia Immergreen, and Raora Panthera.
Besides HoloJustice, FLOWGLOW, Hololive’s musical artist group, debuted in November as the second wave of Vtubers under Hololive DEV_IS. The new VTubers in the group are Isaki Riona, Koganei Niko, Mizumiya Su, Rindo Chihaya, and Kikirara Vivi.
So many graduations
Although a lot of new Vtubers were debuted in 2024, a lot of wellknown Vtubers also took a bow and graduated. RE:NEGADE, HEYU’s first generation Vtubers graduated back in April 30, Kyo Kaneko from NIJISANJI graduated in February, Pomu Rainpuff from NIJISANJI graduated in January, while Ceres Fauna of Hololive is set to graduate January 2025.
Usada Pekora nominated at The Game Awards
Usada Pekora from Hololive was the first ever VTuber to be nominated in The Game Awards for the category of Content Creator of the Year, something that has been virtually unheard of in the 10 years of The Game Awards. Although Usada Pekora lost to CaseOh, it’s still a pretty amazing and groundbreaking achievement for the world of Vtubing!
