It all started with Hololive’s Sakura Miko not knowing how humidifiers work.
On a livestream back in 2021, Hololive’s Sakura Miko took the time to complain about the dry air in her room, which wasn’t rectified by a certain humidifier she had bought from the appliance company Sharp. Sakura Miko claimed that the humidifier didn’t seem to work even after a year of use, but her chat was swift to ask if she had ever put water in it. Miko was shocked at the information, and went to grab her Sharp humidifier, only to discover the water tank in the device during the stream.
When news of Sakura Miko’s humidifier fiasco reached Sharp, the appliance company took to banter with her over on X (formerly Twitter) by tweeting out a message to Miko, stating that “Sharp isn’t a wizard. (Thank you for your patronage, but please fill the tank with water)."
Miko replied by quote-tweeting Sharp, apologising for her mistake and assuring that she would make sure to add water.
Sharp answered Miko’s quote tweet with “I will try my best to one day be able to create water from nothing and humidify the room, so please keep up the good work, Mikochi.”
Miko humorously replied with “the day when Sharp becomes a wizard is approaching… I’ll do my best to increase the humidity!!!”
In 2024, a fan with the username @jadeite1027 would tweet to Sharp about wanting a Sakura Miko themed humidifier, preferably one that was already a water-filled version. Sharp replied to the fan by asking them if it’s really okay to add water, and if they intend to add water. Miko replied by affirming her willingness to add water and to make an effort, also adding that she’s always waiting. Sharp answered by stating that a waterless humidifier is a dream, but the company is willing to make an effort and try their best with magic. Sharp would later make a tweet to its account, hinting at a collaboration with Sakura Miko.
Sharp Japan took to X to document their hilarious journey into revealing a collaboration with Sakura Miko.
The finale of this hilarious saga comes with a series of tweets made by Sharp today, January 23, much to the excitement and entertainment of Sakura Miko’s fans. Sharp started off with a tweet stating “Today, I want to show everyone a grown-up apology.”
Followed with a tweet of a photo of Cover Corp’s office, “If you make a mistake at work that will last for years, like me, you have to apologise to everyone involved. First of all, prepare a suit and tie, and a white shirt. Leather shoes are also necessary.”
Sharp followed with another piece of advice: “If you’ve been without a suit or tie for a long time, it might be a good idea to just buy a new one.”
When it comes to apologies, Sharp told followers: “Now it’s time to apologise. On the Shinkansen train, we will imagine all kinds of situations where we will be scolded, and carefully simulate how to apologise for each one. Also let’s consult chatGPT about what to bring as an apology gift. I was suggested to commit seppuku, but if I slip up, real death awaits.”
ChatGPT needs to chill! Who knew seppuku was the only way to sincerely show one’s apology in modern times?
Sharp also gave a tip when it comes to bringing apology gifts: “Go directly from Tokyo Station. It is said that it is best to choose a gift that is heavy and substantial. Be prepared to show your resolve by paying for it yourself.”
… And was also candid about the worry and dread they’re struggling with as they neared Cover Corp’s office, posting a photo of Sharp’s representative holding a gift in front of the tall building: “My steps are heavy and my stomach hurts."
And finally, inside the office! Sharp posted a photo of their representative tensely standing in the Cover Corp lobby, back straightened and gift in hand as they waited for their fate: “My tension may be visible if you press and hold to load in 4k.”
This was immediately followed with another photo of the same representative now standing face to face with Cover Corp CEO Motoaki “YAGOO” Tanigo, exclaiming: “I messed up and came to apologize, but I didn’t think YAGOO would show up.” They replied to themself with a follow up statement: “Actual death among ordinary company employees.”
But the Sharp representatives anxieties would be relieved in a following tweet, showing two photos of Tanigo and the representative alongside a mascot of Sakura Miko, where Tanigo received a ‘letter of apology’, the tweet states: “Today, I apologised to Sakura Miko for my “waterless humidifier” remarks. We directly delivered a letter of apology to Mikochi and President Tanigo for the numerous allusions that had been made to Sharp as if it could become a wizard and for the big mouthing that had continued for several years.”
With a successful apology, the Sharp representative ended the series of tweets with a photo showing the trio with raised fists, signalling the end of the long and incredibly comedic humidifier saga for Sakura Miko and Sharp!
Sharp then revealed an announcement for a collaboration between the appliance company and Sakura Miko, which consists of a “normal” Mikochi brand humidifier and air purifier, complete with an image of Sakura Miko plastered on the body of the appliances, as well as her voice being used. The humidifier and air purifier is available for purchase online.
