Netflix stop-motion anime series about Sanrio’s My Melody and Kuromi is set to release in July 2025

In celebration of My Melody’s 50th anniversary and Kuromi’s 20th anniversary, Sanrio is working with Netflix to release a stop-motion anime about the adorable duo. 

My Melody and Kuromi is set to grace your screens in July 2025 with an all-new stop-motion anime! Revealed in an official release to PR Times, Sanrio Company, Ltd. will be releasing a Netflix series titled “My Melody & Kuromi," which will feature stop-motion animation by Toruku, a stop-motion studio launched within Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, My Deer Friend Nokotan). 

The stop-motion anime will star My Melody, who celebrates her 50th anniversary this year, and Kuromi, who’s celebrating her 20th anniversary. The story will focus on My Melody and Kuromi’s adventures in Maryland, and will be filled with lots of adorable moments for fans to enjoy. 

My Melody & Kuromi will be directed by Tomoki Misato, an up-and-coming stop-motion director who has won a number of awards at film festivals within and outside of Japan. He is known for his stop-motion short anime series PUI PUI Molcar, which aired in 2021. The screenplay on the other hand, is written by Muneko Nemoto, an established and award-winning playwright and director. No further announcements have been made in regards to the series' cast and additional staff. 

My Melody & Kuromi will also be the first stop-motion project for Wit Studio’s Toruku.
