The upcoming series will also debut a never-before-seen monster.

A new Godzilla manga, which was first teased in November 2024, has just confirmed its release date. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Young Champion, a seinen magazine, confirmed that the manga will begin serialisation on 27 May, 2025. Even more details about the team working on this project have also been revealed.

The creative team working on the Godzilla manga

It takes a lot of effort to do justice to the King of Kaijus after the massive entertainment empire that has been built on the character. That’s why, Ju Ishiguchi is creating the manga, previously having worked on the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Re: and the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online anime.

Shinji Nishikawa, aka MASH is designing Godzilla for the manga series. He has previously worked on other Godzilla-related projects and designed the monster for titles such as Godzilla vs. Mothra and Godzilla Final Wars. But most importantly, a brand new space monster will be invading Earth in the upcoming series. Although we don’t know much else about the new enemy, it’s been revealed that Hiroshi Maruyama will be designing the monster. He’s known for his incredible work in the Ultraman franchise.

Unfortunately, other details of the project are being kept under the wraps and not even the name of the manga has been revealed yet. Fans will be able to read the manga on Shueisha’s seinen manga Young Champion when it begins serialisation.

This is not the first time Godzilla has appeared in a comic book series, however. The first time the beloved Kaiju was printed on paper was in 1954, in the Science Adventure Picture Story: Godzilla. The most recent appearance was in 2018 in GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters. After the massive success of Godzilla Minus One (2023) and its eventual Oscar win, fans are eager to see what the monster franchise has in store for them next.
