Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense light novel series comes to an end

There is no news about the anime’s Season 3 as of yet.

The popular Japanese semi-isekai light novel series Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense just released its final chapter. Written by Yuumikan and illustrated by Koin, the book series first started serialisation back in 2016. After almost a decade of publishing, the series released its final chapter on 20 February, 2025. At first, the novel was published on the user-generated website Shōsetsuka ni Narō, and was later acquired by Fujimi Shobo. The news of the series ending was shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the author.

The story of Bofuri follows Kaede Honjo, who starts playing a VVMORPG game named NewWorld Online under the pseudonym Maple. Without much knowledge of the game and in fear of getting hurt and dying, Maple maxes out her defense stats. Although she can’t use magic and runs very slowly, her extraordinary defense results in Maple accomplishing quests and events that nobody else can. Soon, these quests grant her powers that nobody else in the game has, making her one of the strongest players.

The novel series has 18 volumes so far, and the 19th will be its final one. It was adapted into a manga by illustrator Jirō Oimoto, which has been published in the Comp Ace magazine by Kadokawa Shoten since 2018. Moreover, an anime series adapted from the novel by Silver Link came out back in 2020 and was pretty well-received. The second season of the anime aired in 2023. Unfortunately, there is no news about the third season as of yet. Yen Press has licensed the English version of both the light novel and the manga. The anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Videos.
