Original magical girl anime series Maebashi Witches unveils release date and new trailer

The main cast of the series has also been confirmed.

A beautiful original anime about young witches is set to debut this April. Maebashi Witches, produced by Sunrise, follows five magical girls on a journey to self-discovery.

This original series revolves around Yuina Akagi, who is unsatisfied with her life as a high schooler. One day, a talking frog named Keroppe scouts her and four other young girls to become witches. Together, they are transported to a magical flower shop where they dance, sing, and help customers with their problems, with their performance being the source of their powers. The anime takes its name from Maebashi city in the Gunma prefecture of Japan, where it’s set. 

The show's official X (formerly Twitter) account recently released a 3-minute preview video, showcasing the main characters and some really amazing, enchanting music. Along with that, it was also revealed that the anime will start airing on April 6, 2025.

Some voice actors in the series have also been unveiled. The confirmed cast includes:

  • Sakura Kasuga as Yuina Akagi
  • Hinaro Sakikawa as Azu Niisato
  • Rena Motomura as Kyōka Kitahara
  • Haruka Minami as Choco Mitsumata
  • Honami Momose as Mai Kamiizumi
  • Tomokazu Sugita as Keroppe 

Produced by Sunrise, the series is directed by Junichi Yamamoto with scripts to be written by Erika Yoshida. Yu Minami designed the original characters, while Nozomi Tachibana is responsible for the animation character design. Yuri Habuka is composing the music, with the opening theme song, Sugosugi Maebashi Witches! to be performed by the voice actors of the five main characters.
