Gosho Aoyama's Yaiba anime adaptation announces additional cast members

The anime adaptation of legendary mangaka Gosho Aoyama's Yaiba announced additional cast members, including a certain beloved tiger.

The anime adaptation of Gosho Aoyama's manga Yaiba has announced an additional pair of cast members. Comic Natalie reported that voice actors Isshin Chiba and Kousuke Echigoya will join the cast as Kagetora and Shonosuke, respectively. Both cast members were announced on Tuesday, February 18th, 2025.

Isshin Chiba, the voice actor for Kagetora, shared some comments regarding his appointment as the tiger:

This is Chiba Isshin, who plays Kagetora. I couldn't appear in the previous film, so I was thrilled to learn I'd be playing Kagetora in this one! Kagetora can't speak, but I'm having fun recording and trying to make sure he can converse with Yaiba and the others. An exciting adventure with Yaiba and the others is coming up soon! Please wait for a bit longer.

Both Isshin Chiba and Kousuke Echigoya were already established names in the anime industry. The former was the voice of Jin Kazama from Tekken: Bloodlines and Ryuuji Danma from Great Teacher Onizuka, while the latter was the voice of Gengar in 2024's Poketoon and many roles in Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken.

Yaiba is set to premiere on 5 April, 2025 and will be broadcast every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. JST on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV, before the revered Detective Conan series that airs on 6:00 p.m. making the one-hour airtime the Gosho Aoyama hour.

Takahiro Hasui from Mob Psycho 100 season 3 fame helms the anime at Wit Studio, with Touko Machida handling the series composition and Yoshimichi Kameda designing the characters. Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa are in charge of the music. 

Yaiba was serialised in Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine from 1988 to 1993. Shogakukan collected the chapters into 24 volumes from 1989 to 1994.
