The ‘A Certain…’ franchise is expanding with an additional series adaptation.
Besides confirming that Season 4 for A Certain Scientific Railgun is now in production, a spin-off anime titled Toaru Anbu no Shojo Kyosei (Item) (A Certain Dark Side: Girl’s Cohabitation (Item)) has also been revealed. An official broadcast date is yet to be announced.
The official ToAru X (formerly Twitter) account posted a teaser trailer commemorating the announcement.
The announcement was revealed at the Dengeki Bunko New Year Super Appreciation – Winter Festival 2025 livestream. The official voice cast for the show are as follows:
- Mugino Shiori - Koshimizu Ami
- Takitsubo Riko - Suzaki Aya Frenda
- Seiverun - Uchida Maaya
- Kinuhuta’s beloved - Akasaki Chinatsu
Similar to A Certain Scientific Railgun’s season 4, the only confirmed staff member for the adaptation is Kiyotaka Haimura as character designer, working alongside illustrator Nilitsu.
The spin-off series is based on a light novel series written by Kamachi Kazuma and illustrated by Nilitsu. The series is published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko Imprint, with the official synopsis being as follows:
Rikō Takitsubo: Capable of detecting and tracking the faintest traces of supernatural energy.
Frenda Seivelun: A combat expert skilled in explosives and traps.
Saiai Kinuhata: A defensive specialist who can manipulate nitrogen at will.
Shizuri Mugino: One of the seven most powerful espers in Academy City.
Living in the shadows, these girls silently set their sights on their target—
"Bu-chi-ko-ro-shi ka-ku-te-i ne." (You're dead. No doubt about it.)
This is a tale of encounters, friendships, and darkness—one that will inevitably lead to a gruesome incident.
