A Certain Scientific Railgun Season 4 is now in production.
Announced at the Dengeki Bunko New Year Super Appreciation– Winter Festival 2025 livestream, A Certain Scientific Railgun is set to continue with a fourth season, which is now in production. No further details have been revealed, although a trailer celebrating the announcement was posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the series.
Based on a manga series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Motoi Fuyukawa, A Certain Scientific Railgun is a spin-off to the A Certain Magical Index series. The first season of the anime series aired in October 2009 to March 2010, the second season aired from April to September 2013, and the third season aired from January to September 2020. All of the seasons have been produced by J.C. Staff, and were directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai.
The main cast are confirmed to reprise their roles, and are as follows:
- Mikoto Misaka - Rina Sato
- Kuroko Shirai - Satomi Arai
- Kazari Uiharu - Aki Toyosaki
- Ruiko Saten - Kanae Ito
- Misaki Shokuho - Azami Asakura
Currently, the only confirmed staff member for season 4 is Kiyotaka Haimura, who is in charge of character design.
The premise for A Certain Scientfic Railgun is as follows:
“In the futuristic Academy City, which is made up of 80% students, many of whom are espers possessing unique psychic powers, Mikoto Misaka is an electromaster who is the third strongest of a mere seven espers who have been given the rank of Level 5. The series focuses on the exploits of Mikoto and her friends Kuroko Shirai, Kazari Uiharu, and Ruiko Saten, prior to and during the events of A Certain Magical Index.”
