It seems that Kafka is evenly matched with the Meireki-era Daikaiju.
The latest chapter of Naoya Matsumoto’s kaiju manga really delivered on its promise. After Kafka’s sudden mutation in chapter 120, the Defense Force members were scared to see that the new No. 8’s powers were off the charts. However, instead of becoming a monster, we see that Kafka actually retains his humane qualities in this body. As the new No. 9 aka the Meireki-era Daikaiju, attacks him, Kafka hits him back with an even more powerful punch.

Everyone is shocked to see No. 8 changing his shape and appearance again and one of the JAKDF members points out that now he’s neither human nor monster. The new form’s magnitude is immeasurable, which means it’s above 10 and extremely dangerous. The Defense Force’s leader Keiji Itami realizes that both of these monsters are impossible to neutralize with their current weapons and if Kafka turns on them, humanity will have no way to survive. But suddenly, the monstrous No. 8 says he’s sorry because he broke two drones while transforming. Everyone including Mina starts smiling when they realize that despite having such a scary form, it’s still Kafka inside.
They wonder what this sudden change means. Kafka however, can feel all the anger, hopelessness, and resentment from the Meireki-era warriors emit from the ground and into his body and decides to use them as fuel. The Meireki-era monsters, who are all now in No. 9’s body, start laughing, which shocks everyone, and suddenly attack Kafka. The shockwaves from this destroy several buildings and push the protagonist back. However, Kafka tells the monster that there are too many people here and that they should fight in the Transmission tower. Right after, he lands a massive punch on Kaiju’s face and throws him back into another building.

Fans were glad to see that despite having so much power, Kafka still remains his kindhearted and goofy self. His growth was perfectly portrayed in this chapter and showed us how he stays true to his convictions despite his surroundings changing. Thanks to Matsumoto’s great artwork, the action in the issue was really stunning and readers can’t wait for more. With the final battle having begun already, everyone is eager to see Kafka’s power-ups.
