Dorohedoro is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, and fans are overjoyed for the comeback.
The popular post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama filled with bloody action is finally coming back. Based on Q Hayashida’s manga of the same name, the Dorohedoro anime came out back in 2020. Produced by MAPPA, the gory series amassed a large fan following with just 12 episodes and an OVA. Unfortunately, for the last few years, there has been no news about further seasons for the anime.
However, on January 12, 2025, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Dorohedoro anime announced that the show will be back this year. According to the post, the anime is celebrating its five-year anniversary this month. It also teased that the sequel is already in production, and is being directed by Yuichiro Hayashi, the director of the first season. Moreover, the post confirmed that the second season will be released sometime in 2025, although a release date hasn’t been specified yet.
The story of Dorohedoro takes place in a post-apocalyptic world divided into three parts. The Hole, where humans live and sorcerers dump their magic waste, The Sorcerers’ World, and Hell, where sorcerers go after their deaths. Caiman, the protagonist, is looking for the sorcerer who experimented on him and gave him a reptilian head, while Nikaido, a restaurant chef and sorcerer, helps him in his quest. A powerful sorcerer named En hears about Caiman murdering sorcerers and sends two magical hitmen, Noi and Shin, to kill Caiman. You can watch the first season of the popular anime on Netflix.
