The award-winning manga is getting an anime adaptation!
Previously revealed to receive an anime adaptation back in February 2025, A Star Brighter than the Sun by Kazune Kawahara finally has a broadcast window: October 2025. No exact date has been announced yet, but we can expect that information in the coming months.
Besides the broadcast window reveal, the anime also showcased a teaser promotional video, giving viewers a first look into what could be a promising shoujo romance series.
A Star Brighter than the Sun cast and staff, plot and other details
Minori Fujidera is set to voice the anime’s protagonist, Sae Iwata. While Yuki Ono is voicing Sae’s love interest and childhood friend, Koki Kamishiro. No other cast members have been revealed so far.
Aya Kobayashi is helming the series as director, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi in charge of composition. The character design is done by Zeng Jinfeng, while the music is composed by Tabuchi Natsumi in collaboration with Sakurai Miki. Studio KAI is animating the series
A Star Brighter than the Sun’s manga began serialisation in Shueisha’s shojo magazine and Bessatsu Margaret in 2021. It currently has ten tankobon volumes as of 2024. Viz Media licensed the series for an English release in 2024, and describes the story as:
Sae has always been taller and stronger than the average girl. Koki used to be smaller and weaker than the average boy. But now that he’s in high school, he’s tall and super popular! Will their childhood friendship rekindle…and maybe develop into something more?
The manga was nominated for the 12th Anan Manga Award in 2021, and later won the award in its 14th edition last 2023. The 2023 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! ranked the series in eight place for the best manga for female readers.
