The real Death Devil eats Famine and the fake Chainsaw Man.
In the previous chapter of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga, we learned that the devil previously known as Fami is the actual Death Devil. On the other hand, the new crybaby devil is the real Famine Devil, AKA Fami. The latest chapter showed how powerful the Death Devil is, when she consumed Famine and the fake Chainsaw Man and made them follow her orders. It seems that her plans for mankind’s future are far from peaceful.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 199 recap
The issue opens with the Death Devil saying that there’s no point in her dying, because another Death Devil will come after her. And if the next devil is not as fond of human culture as herself, they’ll probably destroy mankind in a heartbeat. The Fake Chainsaw Man asks whether she can just live quietly and not destroy all humans. Death Devil answers that it’s impossible because on the day of the prophecy, humans’ fear of death will reach its peak. It’ll result in her awakening at full power, even if she’s sound asleep. Hearing this, the Famine Devil suggests that she should be eaten by Chainsaw Man. That way, the concept of death will cease to exist and people will be spared.
However, it doesn’t seem that Death Devil is a big fan of this idea. She says that she has a plan, and if Fami and Fake Chainsaw Man assist her, mankind might not be annihilated. They enthusiastically agree and offer to help, but Death says that it’s not necessary since she’s going to eat them. Before they can react to it, the Falling Devil points a knife at them, causing them to scream in pain. Soon, a murder of crows attack the two, and within minutes, their bodies are consumed. The Falling Devil asks how it tastes and Death says that it wasn’t tasty. She then reaches her hand inside her mouth and pulls out two doll-sized replicas of Famine and Fake Chainsaw Man.
Falling asks if it’s necessary for Death to eat people, as they’ll be enslaved to her after she kills them anyway. Death says that fresh meat tastes great and it’s good manners to savour and honour their lives like this. She then drops the dolls on the ground and calls forth the Famine Devil and the Fake Chainsaw Devil. The replicas start to grow and reach full size within seconds. Famine tries to punch Death for eating her and is confused about how they're alive. But Death orders the two of them to “Plunge mankind into an abyss of terror”. Surprisingly, the two immediately agree to follow her order with Famine, yelling “Salvation” over and over again.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 199 review
With the shocking revelation in chapter 198, I expected the recent chapter to be more lowkey. But of course, Fujimoto always goes above and beyond with his storytelling. The fact that Death can consume devils like Chainsaw Man and then use them to do her bidding makes her a downright terrifying opponent. Even if Denji and Yoru discover her true identity and start a fight, their chances of winning are pretty low against an opponent who can regurgitate new soldiers at will. It’s also heartbreaking that no matter what they do, mankind is probably doomed, and it all stems from their innate fear of Death. I’m excited for the next chapter to see what terror Famine and Fake Chainsaw Man unleash on humanity.
