Season 3 will return in with the continuation of the GGC Arc.
Fans of Shangri-La Frontier won’t have to wait long for the next adventure, as Season 3 of the anime has been officially confirmed. The announcement was made on the series’ official website and X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, 30 March 2025. An official release window or date has yet to be confirmed, although a new key visual was shared along with the announcement.
Season 3 will resume with the continuation of the GGC Arc
The second season of the Shangri-La Frontier anime ended with the beginning of the Global Game Competition (GGC) arc, specifically around chapter 125 of the manga. This means that season 3 will be focusing the remainder of the GGC arc, and possibly touch on Abyss City Part 2, and even part of the New Continente Arc.
The Shangri-La Frontier manga, written by Ryosuke Fuji, had surpassed 10 million copies in circulation by September 2024. It also won the 47th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2023.
The story is about Rakuro Hizutome, a teenager who enjoys playing "trash games" — old and faulty video games with niche appeal, who decides to challenge himself by trying the acclaimed best-selling virtual reality game Shangri-La Frontier. Playing under the name Sunraku and donning a bird mask, Rakuro utilises his experience from difficult, glitchy games to navigate this new world with over 30 million registered players.
With Season 3 confirmed, fans can look forward to the continuation of Sunraku’s journey in the GGC arc. Stay tuned for further updates on its release date and additional details.
