The upcoming Madoka Magica game has now opened pre-registrations.
Based on the cult classic dark magical girl anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the game, titled Magia Exedra, will feature various original stories based on the franchise. The game was first announced in April 2024 and planned to release the same year, but was delayed to Spring 2025.
However, a recent announcement to the official Magia Exedra X (formerly Twitter) account has revealed that the global release is slated for 27 March, 2025, with pre-registrations now open for all platforms.
MagiDra hits 800k pre-registrations
The announcement for the Global launch day was paired with a variety of announcements, detailing what fans can expect once the game comes out. These include “What-if” stories that will come with main quests retelling the events of Puella Magi Madoka Magica’s anime, as well as two original stories titled “One Time Team-up!”, which will feature Kyoko and Homura, as well as “Rains Too Shall Pass”.
The gameplay will feature battle content, including battle modes and player match events, where characters can go up against each other or against witches and their minions. The game will also include a community feature, where players can team up to form a “Union” to take on exclusive battle content.
With fans counting down the hours until global launch day, MagiDra has racked up over 800,000 pre-registrations. The official X account of the game provided free wallpapers for Madoka and Homura to celebrate, as well as five free Magia Keys, the in-game currency for the game’s gacha mechanic, that can be redeemed once the game has launched.
MagiDra currently has 37 playable characters, which also includes the five main characters from the series: Madoka, Homura, Mami, Sayaka, and Kyoko.
Magidra will be available on Android, iOS, Apple, Google, and Steam, with Steam's release date yet to be announced.
No news about Madoka Magica’s final movie
On the other hand, the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- is yet to receive a final release date after a significant delay. The movie was originally slated for release in Winter 2024, but due to production circumstances, the premiere was moved to Winter 2025. And with Winter 2025 in its last legs… well, fans have no choice but to wait for any significant news.
We do know that -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- will continue the story of Homura and Madoka after the 2013 movie, titled Rebellion. It was confirmed in 2021 that -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- is a direct sequel to the events of Rebellion, and with Homura fully embracing her demonhood, and essentially being Madoka’s eternal foe, the trailer hints at more psychological horror, tragedy, and through it all, hope.
So let’s not lose hope that -Walpurgisnacht: Rising- will finally hit the big screens within the year. Gen Urobuchi, SHAFT, please!
