The upcoming season will adapt the manga’s Emerald Witch Arc.
The popular gothic detective anime Black Butler is coming back with its 5th season this year. The official website and X (formerly Twitter) account of the series revealed that the Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc will air on 5 April, 2025. A new trailer highlighting the new characters and storyline of the upcoming season was also released.
Black Butler Season 5 Cast and Staff
Maaya Sakamoto and Daisuke Ono continue to voice the two central characters of the series: the Queen's guard dog Earl Ciel Phantomhive and his demonic butler Sebastian. Two new voice actors have already joined the cast for the Emerald Witch Arc, and their voices were featured in the latest trailer. The two new cast members are:
- Rie Kugimiya as Siedgelin Sullivan (Happy in Fairy Tail, Nora in Noragami)
- Chikahiro Kobayashi as Wolfram Gelzer (Legoshi in Beastars, Toby Selwyn in Violet Evergarden)
Daisuke Ono, Rie Kugimiya, and Chikahiro Kobayashi will also be present at the advanced screening event at the United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo on 23 March, 2025.
The season is once again being animated by studio CloverWorks while Kenjiro Okada is directing the project. Hiroyuki Yoshino is writing the scripts while Yumi Shimizu designs the characters. Ryo Kawasaki is in charge of music composition.
Black Butler Season 5 Story and other details
Based on Yana Toboso’s manga of the same name, the Black Butler anime follows the 12-year-old Ciel Phantomhive and his demon butler Sebastian Michaelis. Following Queen Victoria’s order, the two solve difficult crimes, especially of the supernatural genre. The 4th season of the anime saw Ciel and Sebastian visit the elite Weston College to solve a mystery.
This time, the Queen will send Ciel and his butler to Southern Germany’s infamous Werewolf’s Forest. Once there, the duo will be faced with a village that seems to be living in the past. They’ll also encounter a young girl, who is known as the Emerald Witch. As the mystery ventures into the outskirts of modern society, Ciel and Sebastian will find themselves at their wit’s end with the new mystery.
