With its unique charm and a protagonist who wants nothing more than sleep all the time, this anime is an absolute treat. The Valentine’s Day episode starts out with Tanaka and Ohta finding two homemade chocolates in the former’s bag. The two spend the entire day spying on their classmates, looking for the one who placed them in the bag. Tanaka’s sister Rino also appears in the episode and the final reveal is really surprising. Without a lick of romance, this V-Day episode makes up with humour.

This anime is divided into many short episodes, one of which is ‘Chocolate Festival’. Monthly Girls Nozaki Kun episode 12

This one’s not exactly a Valentine’s Day episode, but an aftermath of it. Titled If This Feeling Isn’t Love, Then There Is No Love in the World, the episode follows Chiyo Sakura, who finds some homemade chocolates in her fridge. She remembers that she made them for Nozaki on Valentine’s Day, but couldn’t give it to him because she was busy looking for his manga ideas, and now it’s been five months. When Nozaki accidentally eats them and compliments her, Sakura feels happy. Later, the two also attend the fireworks festival with their friends. This is the final episode of the first season and ends on a massive cliffhanger. Despite that, the sweet blooming romance between a girl and his oblivious crush is entertaining to watch.
Toradora! episode 23

This enemies-to-lovers unlikely romance anime is a favourite amongst fans, and its Valentine’s Day episode also doesn’t disappoint. Titled ‘ The Road We Must Advance On’, the instalment shows the protagonists Taiga and Ryuuji helping out at Yusaku’s part-time job after he collapses from anaemia. Despite their differences, they have a lot of fun selling chocolates to couples on V-Day with Ami. However, things change when a misunderstanding threatens to collapse their budding relationship. Filled with drama and plot escalation, this episode is a must-watch for those who love Toradora!
Horimiya: The Missing Pieces episode 11

Season 2 of the popular anime Horimiya was almost as great as the first one, with new relationships growing all around. Titled ‘Chocolate’ the episode mainly focuses on the main couple, Hori and Miyamura. Hori is worried about making chocolates for Miyamura as he’s an extremely talented baker and she doesn’t know if hers will taste any good in comparison. We also see a new friendship blooming between Sakura and Yuki while Sawada’s friend plans to make chocolates for Iura. In the end, Hori and Miyamura share the treats they made for each other, showing us that it’s more important to spend the day with your loved one instead of focusing too much on the gift itself.
Nisekoi season 2 episode 6

Named ‘Delicious’ this is one of the most iconic V-Day episodes in anime. Chitoge, Marika, and Kosaki all try making chocolates for Raku, while he wallows in self-pity over never receiving Valentine’s chocolates from a girl. Unfortunately, all three girls run into some problems while trying to give the chocolate to the person they love. Hilarity ensues, as is the case with this anime. The episode ends in a heartwarming way, which will definitely make you smile at the stupid shenanigans of the high-school kids.
Code Geass season 2 episode 12

Another famous Valentine’s Day episode titled ‘Love Attack!’ is surprisingly not from a romance anime at all. On one hand, Lelouch learns that Milly has declared that on ‘Cupid’s Day’ if a boy gets his hat stolen by a girl, then he becomes his. She also announces that if someone can get her Lelouch’s hat, their club will get tenfold of the original budget that year. On the other hand, a dangerous political plot starts to unfold. The stark difference between the two main plot points of the episode makes it an extremely enjoyable watch.
My Love Story!! episode 20

Image via Madhouse
This title is a staple in any romance anime list for its unique main couple and adorable storyline. The V-Day episode takes place when Takeo and Yamato have already been together for almost a year. Takeo is excited about this particular day as he’s never received chocolates from a girl who had romantic feelings for him. But of course, having a girlfriend is going to change all that. Despite that, he agrees to go on a group date with Yamato and all their friends and later regrets not savouring the moment his girlfriend discreetly put chocolates in his bag. However, the resolution of the episode is equally sweet, with the couple coming together to celebrate this special day. If you love mushy sweet stories, then you need to watch this episode asap.
Orange episode 13

After all the happiness and romance, we had to save room for something a bit sombre. However, the final episode of Orange definitely deserves its place on the list. Naho is unable to give her chocolates to Kakeru in this episode, which worries her since it’s supposed to be the day before Kakeru dies if they can’t stop him. Although she finally confesses her feelings and they’re reciprocated, Kakeru doesn’t want to meet her the next day as he needs to take this grandmother to the hospital. Although the tension in the episode is high, the resolution makes it all worth it and will definitely make you shed a few tears.
