No Game No Life author Yuu Kamiya dispelled rumours about an upcoming season 2

Yuu Kamiya, the author behind the hit 2014 anime series No Game No Life, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to dispel rumours regarding an upcoming second season for the show.

The rumour, perpetrated by a now defunct account, claimed that the No Game No Life season 2 would be produced by animation studio MADHOUSE.

In a machine translation, Kamiya states: “Good morning, when I woke up, I had an incomprehensible number of DMs, but they were all fake, so I would appreciate it if you would not contact me about them.”

Hiiragi Ryo, who worked as a graphic designer for No Game No Life, replied to Kamiya’s tweet with ”I thought so. I was surprised for a moment, but then I realized there was no way we didn't know about it…”

No Game No Life, which was based on Kamiya’s 2012 light novel of the same name, became one of the most popular titles of 2014, spawning a 12-episode season, 6 specials, an internet radio show, and a movie. The light novel series is still currently ongoing, with 12 volumes available.

The anime follows the story of two hikikimori stepsiblings named Sora and Shiro, who are known collectively in the online gaming world as Blank. The duo have remained undefeated, and end up being challenged to a game of virtual chess by Tet, a god from another reality. Emerging victorious, Sora and Shiro are offered to live in a world called Disboard that centres around games, which they then accept. And so, their gaming adventures are taken to a whole other level.
