The iconic children’s classic novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, better known as Alice in Wonderland, penned by Lewis Carroll in 1865 is getting an anime movie adaptation 160 years after its publication. The beloved story has been adapted into many media forms, including other books, movies, and live performances. It has even left its impression on many manga and anime, through popular motifs and themes, including a 1983 anime series adaptation titled Fushigi no Kuni No Alice. But now, the story will receive its first anime movie adaptation.
As per the announcement, the movie will be produced by Shochiku and TBS Holdings, with P.A. Works (Buddy Daddies, Skip and Loafer) as its animation studio. It’s being directed by Toshiya Shinohara (Black Butler, Natsume’s Book of Friends), and the scripts will be handled by Yuki Kakihara (The Apothecary Diaries, Pseudo Harem). The movie will be released in theatres across Japan on Friday, August 29, 2025, although no international release has been confirmed as of yet. She then meets Alice, the titular protagonist of Carroll’s novel who had accidentally fallen through a rabbit hole into Wonderland. Actress Nanoka Hara, known for her role as Kana Arima in the live-action Oshi No Ko adaptation and her voice role as Suzume in Makoto Shinkai’s movie Suzume, is starring as Rise.
