Aoashi Season 2 changes studio ahead of 2026 release

Production I.G. will not be producing the next season of the popular football anime.

A few days ago, news broke that the fan-favourite sports anime series Aoashi was coming back with Season 2 in 2026. The official website and X (formerly Twitter) account of the anime has confirmed that the show is coming back next year. However, some changes in production have also been announced.

Aoashi Season 2 details

A brand new visual starring the protagonist Ashito Aoi has been revealed to commemorate the next season. It was also announced that instead of Production I.G., the second season will be produced by TMS Entertainment (Dr. Stone, Sakamoto Days). This has gotten some fans worried because TMS Entertainment’s most recent project, Sakamoto Days, was criticised by the community because of its subpar animation. However, until we see a glimpse of the animation in a trailer, we can’t say whether Aoashi Season 2 will get the same treatment.

Based on a concept by Naohiko Ueno, the Aoashi manga is written and illustrated by Yugo Kobayashi. It started publishing in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in 2015. The first season of the anime came out in 2022 and received a lot of critical acclaim. The story revolves around Ashito Aoi, a troubled middle schooler. His meeting with football coach Tatsuya Fukuda changes his life as the man recognises his talent and invites him to join his Tokyo Esperion youth academy. Together, the team dreams of changing Japanese football forever.
