The shoujo rom-com also released a teaser visual and teaser promotional video.
Based on the manga by Akimoto Aki, Mechanical Marie is set to receive an anime adaptation scheduled for Fall 2025. The news, which was revealed on X (formerly Twitter) included a teaser visual, a teaser promotional video, and main cast announcement.
No exact broadcast date has been announced as of yet, but this information may come out in the months before its release.
Mechanical Marie cast and staff
Nao Toyama is set to take on the role of eponymous protagonist Marie, a former genius martial artist with an expressionless face. Toyama is known for roles like Aoi Sakamoto from Sakamoto Days, Giselle Gewelle in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, and Chitoge Kirisaki in Nisekoi.
As per the official Mechanical Marie website, Toyama commented on her role, and through a machine translation states:
Marie has a blank look on her face, but her heart is abuzz with emotions, and she always tries her best, which I think is cute. People around her say she's like a robot, but deep down she's warm, kind, and earnest. Her purity as her love for Arthur grows is so charming, and I want to cherish her and be close to her.
Meanwhile, the role of Arthur, Marie’s love interest, will be performed by Haruki Ishiya. He also voiced Daiya Iruma from 86, Damian Goltz in The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, and Thames Astrea in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-.
Ishiya also released a statement, and through a machine translation it reads:
I want to make him comical, but still have a firm core as Arthur. He's cool, but also cute, and he's an emotional character whose expressions change frequently throughout the episodes, both towards Marie and other characters, so I want to use as much of my expression arsenal as I can to play him. Personally, I haven't had much experience playing this type of role as the main character, so I'm looking forward to it.
Junji Nishimura is helming the adaptation through a collaboration between animation studios Zero-G and Liber. Mariko Kunizawa is writing the series composition, while Yoko Kikuchi is in charge of character design. The music is being done by Yasuharu Takanashi with Johannes Nilsson.
Mechanical Marie plot and other details
Mechanical Marie was originally a one-shot published in Hakusensha’s LaLa in March 2020, but later on received a full serialisation from June 2020 to June 2023. The manga has six tankobon volumes.
Yen Press licensed the series for an English release just this February 2025, and officially describes the story as:
He was a boy. She was a robot. Well…not really. In all actuality, Marie is completely totally 100% human, but because her strange new employer seemingly despises humans, the powers-that-be are paying a handsome sum for her to pretend she’s the latest and greatest android while protecting said eccentric master from the seemingly endless attempts on his life. Which is fine, but, they forgot to mention one tiny seemingly insignificant detail-this dude absolutely dotes on inanimate objects like Marie can’t believe. She’s not sure what will kill her first, the assassins or his affections…?
