Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback beats out 2024’s record-breaking film
The One-Eyed flashback film beat out last year’s record-breaking Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, which is the franchise’s 27th film. In comparison, The Million-dollar Pentagram earned JP¥960 million on its opening day in April 2024, and was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in Japan.
The One-Eyed Flashback movie also takes the top spot as the franchise’s best-selling film of all time, a position formerly held by 2023’s Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine.
Besides the record-breaking earnings, The One-Eyed Flashback also broke records with the amount of theatres it opened in, totalling in 522 across Japan. The movie is currently screening in IMAX, MX4DM 4DX, and Dolby Cinema in addition to regular screenings.
According to the official website of the movie, the story synopsis, through a machine translation, begins with Mt. Miho in the Yatsugatake mountain range, in Nagano Prefecture, where a police officer named Kansuke Yamato is shot by a mysterious figure, causing an avalanche. Yamato survives the attack, although he loses an eye during the crisis.
A few months after the event, Yamato, alongside Yui Uehara, hears about a terror attack at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan in Nobeyama, an event that may be tied to the attack Yamato had suffered.
Finding out about these inexplicable events, Kogoro Mouri and Conan try to get to the bottom of things to catch the perpetrator, although this mysterious figure proves to be a dangerous and formidable opponent.
