Shinichirō Watanabe, the creator of Cowboy Bebop is behind this project.
The much-awaited sci-fi action anime Lazarus, created by the legend Shinichirō Watanabe, is finally coming out this year. In a recent trailer, it was announced that the anime project will premiere on 5 April 2025, on Adult Swim during the Toonami block, and on Max the next day. The Japanese dubbed version of the series will air 30 days later. A press release by Warner Bros. Discovery has also detailed the premise of Lazarus.

MAPPA is behind the animation of the show while SOLA ENTERTAINMENT is planning production. The director of the series is the legendary anime creator Shinichirō Watanabe, who worked on titles such as Samurai Champloo, Terror in Resonance, and of course, Cowboy Bebop. Fans of the director are excited for this new project from him. Other staff members include action supervisor Chad Stahelski and character designer Akemi Hayashi. Kamasi Washington, Bonbo, and Floating Points are handling the music for the series.

The story of Lazarus takes place in the year 2052 when a miracle drug has been invented by Dr. Skinner. Known as Hapna, this medicine can allegedly take away all of humanity’s pain. But things start to go awry when he suddenly goes missing. Three years later, after many people have ingested this drug, he comes back as a prophet who brings an ominous message to humanity: death is imminent.
It’s revealed that Hapna is actually a lethal drug with radioactive effects which start plaguing the body three years after ingestion. Five competent agents from around the world come together for one mission: find Dr. Skinner and the cure only he knows. The group, known as Lazarus, throws themselves. into a time-bound chase before humanity is wiped off the face of the earth. Fans are eagerly waiting for the tantalizing sci-fi action thriller action series.
