YuYu Hakusho (1992)

YuYu Hakusho follows the story of delinquent student Yusuke Urameshi, who dies while saving a child. Thanks to his good deed, Yusuke gets a second chance at life as a Spirit Detective, who is tasked with protecting the human world from supernatural threats. Yusuke teams up with his friends Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama to face demonic entities, uncover secrets, and fight in high-stakes tournaments, all while discovering his purpose and strength.
Cowboy Bebop (1997)

A mind-bending anime series inspired by the Technophobia phenomenon of the 90s, Serial Experiments Lain follows the shy and introverted Lain Iwakura, who becomes drawn into the mysterious and immersive world of the Wired– a virtual network similar to the internet. A series of strange events blur the line between reality and the digital realm, leading to Lain discovering unsettling truths about her identity, consciousness, and the nature of existence.
Cardcaptor Sakura (1998)

Regarded as one of the seminal magical girl series of the 90s, Cardcaptor Sakura tells the story of titular character Sakura Kinomoto, an elementary school student who one day discovers the existence of magic in her father’s library. After accidentally releasing a set of magical cards called ‘Clow Cards’ from a mysterious book, Sakura is tasked with capturing the escaped cards with the help of the book’s guardian, Keroberos, while discovering her true potential as a magic user.
Great Teacher Onizuka (1999)

Also known as GTO, the story follows 22-year old Eikichi Onizuka, a former gang leader turned highschool teacher. Although Onizuka started off his teaching career with less-than-savoury intentions, he realises the purpose of teaching and strives to become a great teacher to those who encounter him. Onizuka is regarded as rough and unconventional, but he’s determined to help troubled students overcome their struggles by becoming a guiding figure they can look up to and trust.
