Banana Yoshimoto’s 2000 novel “Daisy’s Life” will receive an anime film adaptation directed by Masaaki Yuasa.
In a report by Comic Natalie, it has been revealed that the 2000 novel “Daisy’s Life” (Hinagiku no Jinsei) by celebrated Japanese author Banana Yoshimoto is set to receive an anime film adaptation. The movie is a joint production between Ame Pippin, Masaaki Yuasa’s recently established studio, and Miyu Productions, a French animation studio. It is scheduled for a 2026 release, and will be the debut work of Yuasa's studio.
Daisy’s Life plot and other details
The anime film adaptation for Daisy’s Life will be directed by Masaaki Yuasa himself, with the script being handled by Sachiko Tanaka, who worked on a number of live-action films like Tokyo Sonata (2008), Real (2013), and Asako I & II (2018). The character designs will be made by Yoshimoto Nara, who also provided the original illustrations for the novel.
Masaaki Yuasa was the former head of the animation studio Science SARU, and was also its co-founder when the studio was established in 2013. Yuasa served as the head until his retirement in 2020, and is known for visually stunning and critically acclaimed titles such as DEVILMAN Crybaby, Mind Game, Ping Pong the Animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, and Japan Sinks: 2020.
The movie will be based on Banana Yoshimoto’s novel of the same title, and follows a young woman named Daisy, who lives with her aunt at an okonomiyaki and yakisoba shop, as she grapples with loss, grief, and the long road to healing.
The Daisy's Life anime film has also been selected for the Work in Progress category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which will be held in France later this year. Yuasa and his staff will take to the stage to give a presentation about Daisy's Life to fans and people from around the world.
