Science SARU is helming the anime series for the critically-acclaimed historical drama.
The multi-nominated manga written and illustrated by Tomato Soup, A Witch’s Life in Mongol (Tenmaku no Judaguru), has revealed that an anime adaptation is in the works. Science SARU, the studio behind Dan Da Dan, is helming the production of the series alongside TV Asahi. The title for the anime will be Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia.
The announcement came with a special promotional video featuring the two main characters, and shows off a different style compared to what’s usual in your typical anime titles. It also revealed that the anime will be broadcast on TV Asahi, though no staff, cast, or broadcast window were divulged.
A Witch’s Life in Mongol plot and other details
A Witch’s Life in Mongol’s manga has been serialised in Akita Shoten’s Souffle Website since September 2021, and is currently still ongoing with a total of four tankobon volumes. Yen Press distributes the English translation of the series.
The art for A Witch’s Life in Mongol is distinctly stylised, which was inspired by Tomato Soup’s perception of medieval manuscripts tending to have “unrealistic” styles.
The series was nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho awards in 2023, as well as the 17th Manga Taisho Awards. The Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook ranked A Witch’s Life in Mongol as the top manga for female readers, before falling to 11th place in the 2024 edition.
Yen Press officially describes the plot as:

These two women are the axel upon which the politics of the palace, and soon the very world, will turn…
