The anime adaptation by Science SARU reveals a new teaser, trailer, and more.
Masamune Shirow’s era-defining cyberpunk manga series, Ghost in the Shell is set to receive a brand new anime adaptation. The series will be released in 2026, and is titled Kōkaku Kidōtai THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (The Ghost in the Shell in English). The show has revealed a new teaser and trailer, along with main staff details on the official website.
The Ghost in the Shell anime staff and production details
As previously mentioned, the anime adaptation is being produced by Science SARU (Dandadan, Yurei Deco). Moko-chan (episode director for Dandadan, The Heike Story) is directing the series. Toh EnJoe (The Empire of Corposes author and Godzilla: Singular Point writer) is writing the scripts while Shūhei Handa (Little Witch Academia, KILL la KILL) is the character designer and chief animation director. The new trailer also highlights the production team working on the project.
The main cast of the series hasn’t been announced yet. Based on Masamune Shirow’s manga that came out in 1989-1990, the series is set in a futuristic world where people cyberbrains. Unfortunately, this deep dependence on technology also means the public’s brain is really susceptible to hackers. Set in 2029, the story follows Chief Daisuke Aramaki and Major Mokoto Kusanagi as they try to catch one such hacker who’s been terrorising the citizens. But things soon go wrong. The manga is a pioneer in the cyberpunk crime-thriller genre. Previously, Production I.G has produced several anime adaptations of the series. Fans are excited to see what Science SARU does with it after the immense success of Dandadan.
