Fans got the surprise of their life when it was announced that the sixth season of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime series is now in production. The news was revealed during the JOJODAY event on 12 April, 2025 (Saturday).

What’s Steel Ball Run all about?
Steel Ball Run is the seventh main story arc of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure manga series, written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It was serialised in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from January to October 2004 as a shounen series, before being moved to Ultra Jump, and thereby being classified as seinen, in 2005 to 2014.
Initially, Steel Ball Run was published without any connection to the overarching lore of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, however, it was later revealed that the serialisation was the official seventh arc of the series. The manga had a total of 95 chapters, and were combined into 24 tankobon volumes as volumes 81 to 104 of the entire series.
The manga has recently been licensed for an English release by Viz Media, with the first volume set to be released in May 2025.
Steel Ball Run is an alternate universe Western set in 1890’s United States and follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey turned paraplegic after a shooting incident; and Gyro Zeppeli, a former Neapolitan executioner and master of a mysterious technique known as the Spin.
To learn more about the Spin, Johnny Joestar takes part in a cross-country horse race known as the Steel Ball Run, which will occur from San Diego to New York City with a US$50 Million grand prize. Johnny temporarily regains movement of his body thanks to Gyro’s steel ball, and becomes friends with his rival as they travel through the wild wilderness while fending off various enemies and violent competitors.
As the race progresses, Johnny and Gyro unveil a deeper conspiracy connected to the Steel Ball Run competition, its eccentric organizer Steven Steel, the president of the United States, Funny Valentine, and the scattered pieces of a 1900-year old corpse known as the Holy Corpse.
