Yuasa has launched a new animation studio called ‘ame pippin’.
Former head of the animation studio Science SARU Masaaki Yuasa has just launched his own animation company. Called ‘Ame Pippin’ (stylised as ame pippin) the anime studio is based in Tokyo. Yuasa has collaborated with CoMix Wave Films, ASMIK Ace, and Aniplex to bring this project to life. The official website of ame pippin has already been launched, which Yuasa announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. The website lists Yuasa as the CEO and co-founder of the company.
Masaaki Yuasa co-founded the Science SARU animation studio back in 2013 with producer Eunyoung Choi. He served as the head of the company until March 2020 when he retired. During his time with the company, he has created some visually stunning and critically acclaimed projects such as DEVILMAN Crybaby, Mind Game, Ping Pong the Animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, and Japan Sinks: 2020.
Yuasa’s latest project was a full-length feature film called Inu-Oh, which was produced by Science SARU. The movie was based on a novel titled Tales of the Heike: Inu-Oh by Hideo Furukawa. It came out back in 2021, and since then Yuasa hasn’t been actively directing any projects. It seems that he wants to make a return to the world of anime with ame pippin. Fans of his work are really excited about his upcoming projects, which will likely feature his unique animation style which is disturbing yet visually appealing at the same time.
