Sometimes, all you want to do is kick back and watch something that melts away stress while delivering plenty of laughs. And when it comes to anime, the comedy genre is packed with gems that give you exactly that.
With quirky characters, hilarious scenarios, coupled with outlandish humour that never fails to entertain, these shows are the ultimate escapes for pure entertainment.
So, if you’re looking for good titles that will have you rolling on the floor, we’ve got you. Here are five comedy anime to watch for a good time.
KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World
Number of seasons: 3
Number of episodes: 31
KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World is a wildly entertaining comedy anime isekai that follows the story of Kazuma, a shut-in gamer who is unexpectedly thrust into another world after an untimely demise.
In that world, he forms a party – but somehow ends up teaming with an unconventional group of adventurers, including an eccentric goddess, an explosion-obsessed mage, and a knight with a peculiar penchant for pain.
The charm of KonoSuba lies in its irreverent humour and subversion of classic JRPG and isekai tropes. The series thrives on the hilariously dysfunctional relationships among Kazuma’s party members—each with their own quirks, and their over-the-top incompetence. In fact, watching the characters fail so terribly is probably what makes it so good as a comedy, especially for fantasy-lovers and gamers.
Dungeon Meshi
Number of episodes: 24
Also known as Delicious in Dungeon for the English-speaking viewers, Dungeon Meshi follows a group of adventurers who journey deeper into a peculiar and dangerous dungeon to save their partymate Falin and defeat a Red Dragon. As their supplies dwindle, their leader Laios, with the help of Senshi, a dwarf they met along the way, encourages everyone to eat the dungeon monsters they defeat to survive.
Watching Dungeon Meshi feels like being thrown into a Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) homebrew session, where both the players and the dungeon master go off the rails with their choices. Each episode combines mystery, wit and humour all while featuring some classic dishes reimagined and made from ingredients found in the dungeon that make your mouth water.
A second season is confirmed to be released in 2025.
Mashle: Magic and Muscles
Number of seasons: 2
Number of episodes: 24
Mashle: Magic and Muscles is another anime comedy that parodies magical school tropes, drawing heavily from huge hits like Harry Potter.
The story follows Mash Burndead, a boy born without powers in a generation where people with no magic powers are discriminated against or even killed. Despite this, circumstances force him to enroll in a prestigious magic academy where he uses his overwhelming physical strength to mimic magic to overcome bullies and other powerful wizards along the way.
Mash’s lack of magic power is compensated by his insane, inhuman strength. And with his nonchalant attitude, along with his odd obsession over cream puffs and physical workout, make scenarios thrown his way hilarious—especially if you’ve already formed stereotypes from movies or series with schools of magic, like Harry Potter.
The creators have confirmed that Season 3 of Mashle is in development.
Dan Da Dan
Number of episodes: 12
Dan Da Dan is a high-energy anime following Momo Ayase, a high school girl connected to spiritual mediums and a boy from school called Ken Takakura (Okarun), an Otaku for all things aliens and occult.
Their worlds collide when they debate the existence of the paranormal—Momo believes in ghosts but not aliens, while Okarun insists the opposite.
To prove each other wrong, they visit locations tied to their respective beliefs, inadvertently diving headfirst into a world filled with bizarre phenomena and extraordinary beings.
Blending supernatural battles, eccentric humour, and heartfelt character dynamics, the series explores the unlikely bond between its two protagonists as they navigate increasingly outlandish challenges. The striking animation and unique premise make Dan Da Dan a refreshing addition to the anime scene, offering an exciting mix of action and wit.
SpyxFamily
Number of seasons: 2
Number of episodes: 37 episodes
No list is complete without Spy x Family, which follows the story of an unusual family of three each with their own secrets. Loid Forger is a secret agent who had to take a wife and a child to fulfill his mission to keep the peace between the previously warring nations of Ostania and Westalis. He takes Yor Briar, a hired assassin called “Thorn Princess” as his wife, and adopts Anya, a young girl who can read minds as his daughter. Keeping their identity a secret from each other proves to be a struggle, however each situation they go through makes them grow closer to each other, and the line between pretense and genuine affection continues to blur.
This heartwarming series delivers a ton of laughs through their family dynamics, where characters overthink most of the time, and hilarious scenarios rooted in miscommunications occur. On top of this, Anya’s quirks and her lack of academic prowess make her even more lovable as a character.
The anime balances thrilling spy missions and wholesome family moments, exploring themes of trust, love, and the importance of connection amidst secrecy and danger.
Spy x Family’s Season 3 is awaiting official release.
