The original net animation will stream on Pokemon’s YouTube Channel on 27 February.

A new Pokemon net-only anime short has been announced, and is set to premier on Pokemon’s official YouTube channel on Pokemon Day (27 February).

The anime, titled ‘Dragonite and the Postman’, is produced by CoMix Wave Films, the same studio behind Makoto Shinkai Films like ‘Your Name’, ‘Suzume’, and ‘5 Centimeters Per Second’. The story will focus on a young girl named Hana, who befriends a Dragonite postman.

According to Comic Natalie, the plot is as follows: Hana, who admires Dragonite, receives a letter one day with no address or sender. Determined to find out the sender, Hana sets out with her partner Hogaeta to discover who sent it, eventually finding out that it came from a young boy named Rio. Hana finds out that Rio sent the letter to his father who works in the Kanto region, and takes it upon herself to deliver the message just in time for Rio’s father’s birthday.

No further information is revealed regarding the show’s length and voice cast. However, the show has revealed details regarding staff. Taku Kimura from Studio Lemon is responsible for directing and storyboarding, while Kentaro Nana is in charge of script and composition. The original characters were made by Asuka Tsuchiumi, while Maho Aoki is the character designer and animation director.

Jo Watanabe is slated as art director, and the series’s music is headed by Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2025 awardee Evan Call. The theme song for Dragonite and the Postman is sung by Yorushika’s vocalist suis, and will be available for download on the same day the anime is released.
