Here are the cream of the crop of the current anime season, so far.
As always, the ongoing winter 2025 anime season has been a bit of a hit and miss in terms of titles. Some of the returning series couldn’t live up to the hype while some new ones surprised the audience with their animation and storytelling. Now that all these shows have reached their halfway mark, we thought it would be the perfect time to make a list of the anime series which have impressed us. From romance, to politics, to horror, and sports, this list has it all. But remember, there are still some episodes to go, and things can always go differently than you expected.
10. Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective
It is unfortunate that this series can’t be placed higher in the list due to its spotty animation. However, in every other aspect, this anime has shown its potential. Based on Mikito Chinen’s manga, it features a genius doctor who helps police detectives solve crimes with her incredible medical knowledge and power of deduction. Ameku M.D. is a real treat for those who love mystery. The best way to describe the show is a mixture of House M.D. and Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions. If the stakes go higher in the latter episodes of the series, then it will undoubtedly be one of the most entertaining watches of this season.
9. Sakamoto Days
Fans had a lot of hopes from this anime as Yuto Suzuki’s manga is one of the current best. Unfortunately, the below-average animation has ruined the experience for many. The story focuses on ex-hitman Sakamoto, who wants to live in peace, and his past, which doesn’t seem to leave him alone. Although the series has perfectly adapted the story, including the comedic bits, the action felt lackluster in most instances. Overall, the anime isn’t terrible, but it can definitely improve. Especially the backgrounds because what was that? Thankfully, episode 7 has improved the quality a little bit, helping it get into this list. You can read our episode by episode review of the series if you want to know more.
8. My Happy Marriage Season 2
Another series that fans have been waiting for because of its amazing first season, and this one doesn’t disappoint too much. Despite some shortcomings, I can’t help but love the increasing tension and romance between Kiyoka and Miyo. The tiny bit of action and mystery also elevates this anime. Unfortunately, there’s still some confusion about the timeline of the series as nothing is said in clear terms, making this current season is not better than the first, although the romance has seen a steady upgrade. Thankfully, it has done justice to Akumi Agitogi’s novel series. Our My Happy Marriage Season 2 review collection can help you get a better idea of the show.
7. Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Season 2
This horror mystery is a delight due to its unique character design and amazing animation. Although the series came back after 5 years, thankfully, there was no drop in the quality. Based on Aida’s manga series, Hanako-kun and Nene’s supernatural adventures at the school are as exciting as ever, with new Wonders being unveiled and put in their place. Now that more people know that Nene’s days are numbered, it’s interesting to see what they’ll do to stop it from happening. The series also features some eerie background score that elevates the overall chilling atmosphere.
6. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Season 2
Surprisingly, this harem romance has made its way into the list due to its wholesomeness. Adapted from Rikito Nakamura’s manga series, the anime focuses on Rentarō Ajiō who has to date his 100 soulmates to make sure none of them die of misfortune after being rejected by him. Despite being awkward, the protagonist loves all his girlfriends equally, making it a sweet romcom. The second season got even better reviews than the first one, mainly due to its inclusion of many new girls who have different personalities and love Rentarō with all their hearts. Its adorable charm has made it one of the best romcoms of the season.
5. Dr. Stone: Science Future
The Dr. Stone anime is in its 4th season already, with this being the first cour. Although it’s unlikely to attract new viewers so late in its runtime, the series remains as smart and entertaining as ever. With a unique premise and stunning character design, the latest season of Riichiro Inagaki’s anime adaptation lives up to its predecessors. The new villains have cast a net of danger and dread throughout Senku’s crew. However, the protagonist remains undeterred in his course to reach the USA and prepare to go to the moon. In case you haven’t watched it already, it’s high time to add this series to your watchlist.
4. Medalist
This heartwarming series is a gift from the anime gods for people who have been dying for a good sports-themed series in recent years. Adapted from Tsurumaikada’s manga series, it focuses on Inari Yuitsuka, an 11 year old girl who wants to figure skate. But due to her being older than the ideal starting age, and her mother’s insistence upon not pursuing it after her sister’s misfortune, it seems Inari can never achieve her goal. That’s until she meets Tsukasa Akeuraji, a veteran figure skater who is on the verge of retiring. The man agrees to coach her and discovers her natural talent for the sport. The series has some amazing animation, which makes it a delight to watch. Although their dream of an Olympic medal might seem pretty run-of-the mill when it comes to stories, the heart of this series is the sport.
3. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
An anime that came out of left field and shocked everybody with its depth and value. The series is based in the 15th century in P Kingdom where followers of the C Religion still believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth. Rafal, a prodigy who loves astronomy meets Hubert, a heretic who believes that the Earth is the one that moves. With the punishment of torture and death hanging over him, Rafal continues Hubert’s research after his death. The show truly does justice to Uoto’s incredible manga. It’s perfect for those who are looking for something serious and thought-provoking. It will definitely give you a different perspective on human history and religion.
2. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
The only reason this series didn’t get the top spot in the list is because of its drop in animation quality after season 1. Maomao’s adventures are still incredible, with new mysteries plaguing the Inner Palace everyday. Her relationship with Jinshi has also improved to the point where she now openly toys with him sometimes. Overall, the series is still extremely captivating. Unfortunately, the animation has been a bit lackluster, losing some of its charm. Hopefully, the final few episodes of season 2 cour 1 will make up for it. We have done detailed reviews for each episode which you can see in our review compilation.
1. Solo Leveling Season 2
Sitting firmly on the top of the list is this season’s most entertaining and action-packed series. Despite being a returning title, the anime has not lost its quality in any way shape or form. A lot of fans think that season 2 is even better, thanks to the stakes having gone higher. The protagonist Jinwoo is now even more powerful, with the system making him grow stronger every day. The enemies are more dangerous and more fan-favourite characters have made their appearance. Based on Chugong’s web novel and his consequent manhwa, Solo Leveling is well on its way to become one of the best anime series of this decade.
